Common questions

Does ProfilEd replace our LMS?

No. The LMS can remain the institution's course-delivery and record system. ProfilEd adds simulation practice and reasoning evidence around selected learning moments.

What should a higher education institution pilot first?

Choose one moment where learners need to make a judgement, explain it, handle challenge, and revise. A capstone case, placement-readiness pathway, professional interview, or selected course outcome can provide a useful boundary.

What evidence does ProfilEd produce?

Depending on the activity, the record can include choices, explanations, follow-up responses, revisions, reflections, transcripts, and links to the learner's Curriculum Graph.

Can faculty define the capabilities and review criteria?

Yes. Programme teams should define the relevant outcomes and decide how ProfilEd evidence contributes to coaching, formative assessment, or programme review.

Does ProfilEd automatically certify learner competence?

No. ProfilEd creates practice evidence for human review. Institutions retain responsibility for assessment decisions, standards, and any claim of competence.

How does an institutional pilot begin?

Begin with a bounded cohort and one capability workflow. Define the learning purpose, evidence, reviewer roles, privacy expectations, and decision criteria before expanding.

The institutional gap

A grade can show what was submitted. It rarely shows how a learner reached a decision.

Higher education teams already have systems for curriculum delivery, assessment, attendance, and completion. The harder problem appears when a learner must interpret an ambiguous situation, choose a course of action, explain the trade-offs, respond to challenge, and revise. Those moments reveal judgement, but they are difficult to practise frequently and difficult to inspect at programme scale.

ProfilEd gives institutions a practice layer for those moments. Learners work through simulations, cases, Socratic interviews, Story Quests, and guided study sessions. Their choices, explanations, revisions, and reflections become material for feedback. Faculty retain control of learning outcomes and review; programme teams gain a clearer view of where learners repeatedly struggle.

Operations

How a pilot actually runs (30 / 60 / 90)

  • Days 0–30 — Prove the sitting

    Owners: programme sponsor + Career Services or faculty reviewer + ProfilEd kickoff. Inputs: one capability, named cohort, reviewer, success question, access list. Outputs: Curriculum Graph goal live; practice modes on; sample Shared Footprints opened. Success: agreed sample completed at least one real sitting; reviewer can coach from a footprint without a vendor in the room; keep / change / stop called. Stopping at day 21 is a valid institutional decision.

  • Days 31–60 — Stabilise the workflow

    Owners: reviewer + optional learning-innovation ops; IT only if SSO/LTI is in scope. Inputs: keep decision; clarified permissions; faculty load rules (sample, don’t drown). Outputs: repeatable assignment pattern; short facilitator notes; stack-fit checklist started. Success: second cohort or second capability without re-scoping chaos; support tickets trending down; no claim creep into “certified competence.”

  • Days 61–90 — Decide the layer

    Owners: sponsor + procurement/IT as needed. Inputs: evidence from sittings; reviewer time log; data-brief questions; HECVAT on request if counsel requires it. Outputs: expand / hold / exit memo; if expand—modes, roster approach, contract path. Success: written scope for next term; legal URLs reviewed; consumer Gem packaging not confused with institutional pilots.
